Caregiving in practice

What is Caregiver matching?

Caregiver matching is the process of pairing a family with a caregiver whose skills, availability and personality suit the person needing care.

Skills and schedule are the easy part. Fit is what determines whether the arrangement lasts: language, temperament, patience, and whether the person with dementia accepts them.

A poor match usually shows within the first week, and changing early is better than persisting.

Why it matters

Continuity matters enormously in dementia, so the cost of a bad match is higher than in other kinds of care.
