What is Companion care?

Companion care is non-medical in-home help focused on supervision, company and daily tasks rather than hands-on personal care.

A companion caregiver keeps the person safe and engaged: conversation, meals, light housekeeping, errands, reminders and a watchful presence. They do not bathe, dress or toilet the person; that is personal care.

It suits earlier dementia, when the main risks are isolation, missed meals and wandering rather than physical dependence.

Why it matters

It is the least expensive form of in-home care and often the first a family arranges.
