Symptoms and behaviour

What is Delusions?

A delusion is a fixed false belief, commonly in dementia that money has been stolen, that a spouse is unfaithful, or that the house is not their home.

Theft accusations are often the brain's explanation for something that has been mislaid and cannot be found. They are frequently aimed at the person doing the most caring, which is painful and not personal.

Keeping duplicates of commonly lost items, and having a calm stock answer, works better than disproving the belief.

Why it matters

Being accused of stealing by a parent you are caring for is one of the most wounding parts of this illness, and it is a symptom.
